Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP)

Academic conflict & fatality dataset · Uppsala University, Sweden · est. Data collection since 1979

Academic — peer-reviewed

The global standard for organized-violence and one-sided-violence death data, with low/best/high estimates and open codebooks.

Funding & financing

Funded through DEMSCORE, a Swedish Research Council national research-infrastructure grant (2021-00162); historically also Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, Uppsala University, and Sida.

Affiliations

University research program (Dept. of Peace & Conflict Research). Collaborates with PRIO, V-Dem, and ViEWS.

Credibility & caveats

Highly regarded, transparent, peer-reviewed. Its conservative ≥25-death inclusion threshold means under-reported violence can be undercounted, and it measures deaths — not legal genocide.

Membership & leadership

A university research program, not a membership association. The director is appointed within Uppsala University's Department of Peace and Conflict Research. Researchers and coders are hired academics and staff — not dues-paying members who vote on outputs.

Leadership & members

Named individuals reflect leadership at the time of writing; linked names have individual profiles in this record. See membership & leadership above for how they are selected.
