Jewish Voice for Peace

The largest anti-Zionist Jewish membership organization in the US

Anti-Zionist

A US Jewish organization that in 2019 adopted an explicitly anti-Zionist position, framing its opposition to Zionism as rooted in Jewish values and solidarity with Palestinians — the contrast baseline for a clean anti-Zionist.

What happened

JVP, which had earlier described itself as agnostic on Zionism, published a formal position paper declaring unequivocal opposition, casting Zionism as a political ideology distinct from Judaism that failed to solve antisemitism.

We unequivocally oppose Zionism because it is counter to those ideals… Zionism was a false and failed answer to the desperately real question… of how to protect Jewish lives from murderous antisemitism in Europe. (2019)

The verdicts above are how each definition would most likely classify this person — illustrative guidance, not official rulings. The lenses diverge most on the difference between a self-label and a substantive commitment, and between “Zionism” meaning a Jewish homeland versus a Jewish state. See the Definition tab for each definition’s full text. Inclusion is documentation, not a finding.
